Milestones - Feature Overview
Track your onboarding progress through the critical stages of the customer journey, from kickoff to adoption. Milestones help you see exactly where customers are in their onboarding timeline, identify when they get stuck, and predict who's at risk of churning.
What Milestones Do
Instead of just tracking task completion, milestones track value progression. Each milestone represents a critical stage in your customer's journey (Kickoff, Setup, Integration, First Value, Adoption). By marking key tasks as milestones, you create a timeline of progress that shows:
- How fast customers move through each stage
- Which stages take the longest
- Where customers typically get stuck
- Which accounts are at risk
Who Can Use Milestones
- Admins: Create and configure milestones for your workspace
- Team members: Mark tasks as milestones and track completion
- Leadership & CSMs: View milestone progress on the dashboard, identify risk, and make data-driven decisions
You'll need access to either Settings or the Dashboard (or both) to use milestones, depending on your role.

Key Concepts
Milestone: A critical stage in your customer journey (e.g., "First Value Achieved"). You define what your stages are.
Flagging a Task: Marking a task as a milestone tells Onboard that completing this task represents hitting a milestone.
Value Rating: An optional percentage (0–100%) that represents how much value a customer has received by the time they hit a milestone. For example, "First Value" might be 40% of total value.
Dashboard › Milestones: The analytics hub where you see milestone progress across all projects, time-to-value metrics, and drop-off analysis.
Common Questions
Do I have to use all the default milestones?
No. You can delete any default milestones you don't need and create custom ones that match your workflow.
What if I flag multiple tasks with the same milestone?
The milestone is "hit" when the first task is completed. Additional completions don't re-trigger the milestone.
Can I change a milestone after a task is already marked with it?
Yes. You can edit the task's milestone assignment at any time. Dashboard metrics update to reflect the change.
Does completing a task automatically mark the milestone as hit?
Yes. When you mark a task as complete, any milestone it's flagged with is immediately hit, and the completion date is recorded.
